The closure will be used to help minimize staff and program reductions next school year with pending state budget shortfalls. Dayton School District is located in western Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley, between McMinnville and Newberg, and serves approximately 1,000 students in a grade school, junior high, and high school. The school district draws people into the community who want a strong educational system with a rural sense of caring and teamwork. DAYTON WELCOMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT After six months of a comprehensive superintendent search and sifting through 22 highly qualified candidates, the Dayton School District Board of Directors has chosen Dr. Steven Sugg to be its next superintendent. Dr. Sugg’s contract was approved at the March 3rd board meeting. His proposed start date is set for July 1st, 2020 Dr. Sugg brings with him a wealth of administrative experiences with over 31 years in a variety of educational roles. Since 2013, he has been the superintendent of Sheridan School District. Prior to that he was the Assessment and Accountability Coordinator, the Interim Chief Academic Officer and an Associate Principal within the Sherwood School District. Dr. Sugg has a doctorate in educational methodology, policy and leadership from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree in advanced mathematics education from Western Oregon State College. He completed his administrative licensure program at Portland State University. “The Dayton School Board is excited to welcome home Dr. Sugg. He brings with him a strong local connection. He has lived in the district for many years and raised his children here. His experience in administration and the classroom will be an asset to the schools,” said Board Chair Chris Wytoski. “I am excited about the opportunity to work with the students, board, staff, and community of Dayton School District. It is an honor to be selected as the next superintendent,” said Dr. Sugg. We are pleased to have Dr. Sugg as our new superintendent and look forward to many successful years working together.
